Politics of Heroin
Allen at the Republican Convention in Miami, holding up a copy of Alfred McCoy's The Politics of Heroin in South East Asia published earlier that year. Allen had long suspected the CIA of being far more involved in dope smuggling around the world than was let on. Alfred McCoy's book & the research behind it which Allen helped with, corroborated Allen's belief. Allen had gone so far as to make a bet with CIA director Richard Helms, that if he could prove it, Helms would have to sit and meditate one hour a day for the rest of his life. August 1972.
